3rd Trimester Belly Bump!
Today is the start of my 3rd trimester!!! I'm 28 weeks pregnant! I can't believe how fast this is going. Camdyn will be here in 12 weeks, wow! I'm already feeling pretty BIG... but these last 3 months will be when she really puts her weight on causing me to gain about a pound a week until she's born!! She is really moving around... I've felt her kicks since about 18 weeks but she is really picking up the pace now!! I don't have to sit down and relax to feel her in there... she lets me know that she's there throughout the day while she rolls & moves about! I can't wait to meet her!! I'm getting really anxious now!Monday, November 10, 2008
GD Test Results
I'm very happy to report back that I tested negative for Gestational Diabetes! My Mom and I spent our Saturday morning at the Nebraska Lab Inc and I had to get my blood drawn 4 times, drink a horrendous sugar drink, go through what I call "sugar shock" from fasting the night before and drinking 100 g of sugar in less than 5 minutes, but the good news is now we know that I'm not at risk for GD.
I honestly think that I probably failed the test the first time because I had just eaten a large, iced w/ sprinkles sugar cookie and drank a caffeine free Root Beer before drinking the sugar drink and getting my blood drawn. Make sure not to do that before you have to get tested for GD!!
I will continue to eat a more healthy diet and not go back to my sugar indulging ways... but I am very happy to know that I can enjoy a piece of cake at my baby shower and some pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving! Phew... What a relief!!

Elevated Screening...
So... I have to admit I really have been craving and indulging in sweets with this pregnancy. I can't seem to get enough of pumpkin pie w/ extra creamy whipped cream, dark chocolate milky ways, and just about anything from the Halloween candy stash!!
I just went in for my routine gestational diabetes check yesterday and am very disappointed to say that I failed! My glucose levels were elevated, and I have to go in for more testing. This doesn't necessarily mean that I have gestational diabetes but it means that I could. This is a big wake up call to me! Have I caused this? Have I eaten too many sweets? Or has the gestational diabetes caused all of these sweet cravings? I was so careful with just about everything that went into my mouth while pregnant with Brady, but I have been much more lax this time around. My Dr told me that it is the way your body reacts to sugar during pregnancy because the stress pregnancy can cause on your body, not what you eat. But I still blame myself for eating all of that candy and pie!
I have completely revamped what I'm eating now... Today I've had a plain bagel w/ strawberry jelly, organic oatmeal and orange juice! I plan on a healthy lunch and dinner to follow... I have high hopes that it was just a fluke, since I have not put on a lot of weight and the ultrasound we had just recently measured the baby at a normal size. GD generally causes large babies and for the Mother to gain quite a bit of weight. GD can easily be controlled with diet, exercise and close monitoring... but I just don't want to have to worry about this after our scare at the beginning of our pregnancy! I'm ready to have this little girl and have her be healthy and not have to worry about all of these tests!
Saturday I will go in for a 3 hour glucose screening. My parents are coming out for a visit, won't be too much fun but I'm glad my Mom will be here to go with me. Brandon can stay home with Dad and Brady, while we're at the lab getting this test done. He isn't very patient and it's going to be a long morning... The test is pretty simple. I have to eat a candy bar today, tomorrow and Friday and then fast from midnight Friday night until 8 am on Saturday when I go in for my test. Then the lab tech will draw blood from me when I get there, give me a sweet drink and then take my blood every hour for the following three hours. Sounds like fun, huh?! And to think I had such an easy going pregnancy with Brady! No abnormal tests, no raised levels of anything!!
Pray for us that this is nothing and we can walk out of the lab on Saturday morning feeling reassured that nothing is abnormal and I do not have gestational diabetes!

Halloween Sweets!
I love Halloween and I think I love it even more now that I have Brady! He is so much fun to be around and he brings a new light to everything that we do. I have so many great Halloween memories but now that he is in our lives, each moment is different and so much better!!I loved dressing him up and taking him trick or treating!
I loved watching him run around house to house, store front to store front (we also went trick or treating at the outdoor Southpoint Mall) and seeing his excitement! He really got the trick or treating idea down in a hurry! He would run inside the store, straight to the candy person, reach in and try to snag more than one piece every time! It was so dang cute!!
